Friday, March 12, 2021

On Friday 26 Febrary,  Andrew Tongue, Deputy Secretary, Biosecurity and Compliance Group of the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department)  hosted an Import Supply Chain Roundtable.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) delegates Paul Zalai, John Park and Sal Milici were appreciative of the opportunity afforded by the department to be part of the roundtable discussion to work towards improvements in the Biosecurity processes.

Our previous meetings with Andrew Tongue as well as First Assistant Secretary Biosecurity Operations Colin Hunter and Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud together with the recent Inspector General Biosecurity's review have seen the department move swiftly to engage with industry to collaborate on the common goal of dealing with increased biosecurity threats in a more efficient manner.

FTA look forward to participating in the various sub groups to represent our members views and concerns and work towards not only a secure biosecurity process but one that is better facilitated and with reduced impediment.

The communique issued by the department outlining the broad discussion can be accessed hereFull minutes from the roundtable will be uploaded to the department's website in due course.
