IFAM extension – a positive response to advocacy by peak bodies

Freight and Trade Alliance (FTA), the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) and the NationalFarmers Federation (NFF) have received a positive response to our advocacy to the Federal Government calling for an extension to the International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) beyond 30 June 2021 as an emergency measure to ensure commercially viable access to market for Australian exporters of perishable commodities.

Earlier this morning, the Prime Minister announced a new round of funding to support Australia's aviation and tourism sectors.

Of particular note, the Australian Government announced it will extend IFAM to the end of September 2021, to help keep international supply chains open despite the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This comes as welcome news as industry and government continue to collaborate to support Australia's response to COVID-19 as we evolve to 'new-look' supply chains in a changed trading environment.

FTA and APSA note the following commentary received earlier today from the IFAM Commercial & Finance Manager "As we've discussed in recent Industry Briefings, forward planning is key and we don't want to lose our momentum. Your role in helping the airfreight sector adjust is pivotal and we're thrilled to see so many positive stories of change. We're not done yet though! We will keep working with you and as usual, Bianca will be in touch with the latest and IFAM greatest! If there is anything more we can do to help you, your staff, your members and clients – please let us know."

For more information about the extension, please refer to the IFAM webpage and latest fact sheet.
