CEO WELCOME
________________

Welcome to this month's edition of Port News.

While early in the new year, there is plenty happening around the Port. Last month, we were delighted to announce a new customer, Team Transport & Logistics, was joining the port community.

In the community space, funding is available for eligible organisations and charities through our Community Consultative Committee Grant Fund. All the details are below; please share with your networks.

We continue to focus on the environment. Registrations are open to join us on a Clean-Up Australia Day event planned for late February and our long-running migratory and shorebird monitoring program continues to contribute to conservation efforts through recent bird banding here at the Port.

If you would like more details about anything in this edition of Port of Brisbane News, please contact us.

DEMAND FOR WAREHOUSE DEVELOPMENT CONTINUES
________________

Development activity at Port West continues with PBPL's newest customer, Team Transport & Logistics, taking a 1.22-hectare site within our industrial estate at Lytton.

The facility will comprise a 2,000sqm warehouse; 630sqm of awnings and 225sqm of office space as well as 4,430sqm of dedicated hardstand and a 354sqm wash bay area.

Principal contractor for the build, McNab, has commenced works and is targeting completion by mid-2021. Full details are available on our website.

Welcome to the port community, Team Transport!

CUSTOMER IN FOCUS
________________

This week, Patrick Terminals – Brisbane AutoStrad took delivery of seven new automated straddles from Kalmar in Europe. The AutoStrad vehicles are self-contained and autonomous, and navigate to move containers around the terminal based on virtual routes within 2cms accuracy. Patrick Terminals – Brisbane AutoStrad is one of the most advanced terminals in Australia, being the first in the world to operate with the Australian designed AutoStrad container handling technology

After being discharged yesterday from bulk carrier MV Mick, the straddles will now undergo a full commissioning and onboarding process before they are introduced to the existing fleet. The new straddles will assist in improving service levels for both quayside and landside customers at Patrick Terminals.

GET ON THE WATER THIS CLEAN-UP AUSTRALIA DAY
________________

Join us on Sunday, 28 February from 9.00am to 12.00pm at 1308 Lytton Road, Hemmant, to lend a hand this Clean-Up Australia Day.

Together with our community partner, Ocean Crusaders,  PBPL will be on the water to paddle the lower Bulimba Creek and collect rubbish along the riverbank. After the clean-up, volunteers will enjoy a free sausage sizzle with compliments from the Port of Brisbane team.

Please make sure you
register here.

While we're talking sausage sizzles, PBPL is firing up the BBQ for the first time this year to raise funds for our 2020/21 Employee Charity, Friends with Dignity.  The first sausages will roll off the grill on Thursday, 18 February from 11:30am to 1.30pm at Port Central Café.

LOCAL GRANT FUNDING AVAILABLE
________________

Do you know a local not-for-profit organisation or registered charity that could benefit from grant funding?

Our Community Consultative Committee Grant Program has grants of up to $2,500 available.

The program recently funded the upgrade of practice nets at the Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club, giving local cricketers the edge ahead of the upcoming 2021 season.

Head to our website for more details or contact Ed Harwood, our Community Relations Advisor.

ANNUAL BIRD BANDING
________________

Thanks to the Queensland Wader Study Group volunteers who recently conducted annual bird banding at the Port. It's one way we're supporting conservation efforts for migratory and shore birds.

In total, 40 birds were weighed, measured and banded before being safely released, including Lesser and Greater Sand Plovers, Curlew Sandpipers, Pacific Golden Plovers, Red-necked Stints and Ruddy Turnstones.

The data from this recent monitoring will soon be available on our website and shared with other environmental research organisations around the world.
