CEO WELCOME
________________

Welcome to this month's Port of Brisbane News.

It is pleasing to see the Queensland Government's further easing of COVID-19 restrictions, as well as positive signs of recovery in Victoria. Our thoughts are with our Victorian friends, colleagues and their families.

This month celebrates Safe Work Month as well as Mental Health Week. To mark these events and raise awareness of the importance of workplace health and safety, PBPL is holding its annual Safety 1 Forum online this year, focusing on mental health and resilience.  I encourage you and colleagues to attend this free virtual event.

In other news, I was delighted to release the 2019/20 Sustainability Report last month, which reinforces our commitment to support a growing Port of Brisbane community that truly is here for the future.

PBPL WELCOMES ADVANCE FUNDING FOR PORT OF BRISBANE RAIL ACCESS BUSINESS CASE
________________

In handing down the Federal Budget last night, the Treasurer, Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, announced that $10 million would be brought forward for Port of Brisbane rail planning, as part of the joint Federal-State business case into directly connecting Port of Brisbane to the Inland Rail project.

In total, the Australian Government is committing $20 million towards the business case, with a matching in-kind contribution from the Queensland Government.  The funding was first announced in November 2019.

PBPL thanks the Federal Government for its commitment to advancing this important work and local member, Federal Member for Bonner, Ross Vasta MP, for his ongoing advocacy.

LAND USE PLAN UPDATE
________________

PBPL is responsible for the development and management of port land, in accordance with state legislation requirements and guided by our Port of Brisbane Land Use Plan.

We're currently undertaking a review of 2015 Land Use Plan and stakeholders are invited to provide feedback from 12 October to 4 December 2020. Once stakeholder consultation is complete, PBPL will seek Ministerial approval for the new Brisbane Port Land Use Plan 2020.

Port of Brisbane is proud to support Traction through our Community Grant Funding program; a local community group that provides a safe, inclusive and action-based environment to support and empower young people in need.

PBPL was delighted to recently participate in a CEO Bike Building event, which raised $34,948 for disadvantaged or at-risk youth. Click here to view the highlights reel.

In other community news, this Friday 9 October, PBPL will hold a sausage sizzle to raise funds for our 2020/21 Employee Charity, Friends with Dignity.

Sausage sizzles will be held fortnightly from 11.30am - 1.00pm, with the next on Friday 23 October.  We encourage the port community to head to Port Central CafĂ© (2 Port Central Avenue, Port of Brisbane) and grab yourself a snag for a good cause.
