SIMPLIFIED TRADE SYSTEM (STS)

In last weeks' Federal Budget, government announced a commitment to work toward a Simplified Trade System (STS) which includes a package of measures to improve trade processes at the border. We understand that this agenda will bring together a range of important trade-related initiatives to support business to invest, integrate into global supply chains and grow local jobs.

Following the Budget announcement, we received advice from Australian Border Force Deputy Comptroller-General, Dr. Bradley Armstrong PSM, as follows:

"A key element of the STS will be to progress foundational reform of trade regulations and processes, and standardisation of information requirements, to enable the future development of a Trade Single Window - an important whole of Government initiative.  This is a positive outcome for our prosperity as a nation, and something that I have been personally committed to since commencing with Home Affairs/Australian Border Force in late 2018.

As you may already know, I have established a whole-of-government Trade Single Window Taskforce that will work in close consultation with you and your representatives.  The ABF is aware that traders and industry perspectives and expectations are integral to the design and success of a future Trade Single Window that will save industry time and money.  We look forward to continuing our close engagement over the coming months.  My team will contact you shortly to involve you in the advancement of this important work."
