Duty concession - Item 57 extended to 31 December 2020

Wednesday, July 29, 2020

As members will recall, Susan Danks (Head of Customs and Regulatory Compliance - FTA / APSA) prepared a formal submission recommending extension of the duty concession on imports of certain medical and hygiene products for use in combatting COVID-19 until 31 December 2020.
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) is delighted to confirm that the duty concession, currently provided by Item 57 in the 4th schedule of the Customs Tariff Act 1995 and By-law no. 2019608, will be extended until 31 December 2020 via a new Item (Item 57A) and a new By-law to operate from 1 August 2020.

Details to enable importers to use the new concession (treatment code and instrument number) will be published on the Australian Border Force (ABF) website via an Australian Customs Notice (ACN 2020/30). We expect this to happen before this Friday 31 July 2020.

Any questions on the extension can be sent to tradepolicy1@abf.gov.au.
