Product Emissions and Ozone Protection & Synthetic Greenhouse Gas (3 CPD points - Stream A - FTA109)

Friday, July 3, 2020

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) recently had the opportunity to to speak to and record a presentation delivered by senior Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment representatives covering the following content:

Product Emissions Standards:

As the Product Emissions Standards enters the next phase of the legislation, it is more important than ever that customs brokers understand how to correctly answer the Community Protection Question and that they know what is required of their client before an emissions-controlled product can be imported into Australia.

The Department's Amanda Morvell, talks you through what you need to know about the ban on products certified to Euro Stage II emissions standards (commenced 1 July 2020). The department also share some tips about common mistakes made by customs brokers when answering the CPQ.

PDF of the presentation is available HERE.

The department has also recently republished their guide for customs brokers, which contains updated information about the standards. If you would like a copy of this document, or any of their other published materials, in a language other than English, please email productemissions@awe.gov.au for more information.

Ozone:

Another change this year are the import rules for equipment, such as air conditioners that use hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC), being an ozone depleting substance (ODS).

The Department's Rachel Grigson explains the circumstances where a licence or exemption is available under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Program are now more limited.

The recording talks about this and other licensing and exemption requirements under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Program.
