Governments confirm Port of Melbourne's critical role

The port of Melbourne continues to operate as usual providing much needed goods and supplies to the nation at this challenging time.

As a vital link in Australia's supply chain, Port of Melbourne supports the reassurance given by the Federal and State infrastructure and transport ministers through the Transport and Infrastructure Council that maintaining freight movements is a high priority for all governments.

The communique from the Transport and Infrastructure Council reaffirms the critical role of the freight sector in providing essential supplies and recognises the importance of all members of the freight distribution chain, including ports.

This means the port of Melbourne will continue to provide goods that are essential to Victorian people and businesses, from equipment and medical supplies to produce for supermarket shelves.

We are maintaining close contact with critical port users to understand and progress their needs with appropriate authorities to deal with risks to the port supply chain.

The safety of our people and their families, as well as the general port community, remains our primary focus.

If you have any queries on any matter, please call your Port of Melbourne contact or email us at covid19@portofmelbourne.com.
