Western City & Aerotropolis Authority - AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO LOGISTICS

Friday, February 14, 2020

The Western City & Aerotropolis Authority (the Authority) was created under the $20 billion Western Sydney City Deal to facilitate the design and delivery of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis that surrounds the new Western Sydney International Airport, support the growth of the Western Parkland City and to deliver 200,000 jobs over the next 20 years. The Authority is leading investment attraction, infrastructure coordination and master planning. The 'Delivering the Western Parkland City' strategy will guide the Authority as it continues to deliver the Western Parkland City.

One of the Authority's next priorities is the development of the Integrated Logistics Hub (ILH) – Australia's new global gateway for freight. The vision for the ILH is to create a world-class integrated multi-modal supply chain solution within the Aerotropolis with direct connectivity to the air-side freight operations of the new Western Sydney International airport.

With more than $109 billion freight passing through Australia's airports every year, integrated logistics is essential to getting goods quickly and easily around the country and the world. This week, about 50 key players in the freight and supply chain industry came together for the first of a series of workshops to plan the new integrated logistics hub at the Western Sydney Aerotropolis. With a greenfields site, the Aerotropolis has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to design both facilities and systems which enable goods to get from farm to plate (or factory to consumer) faster and more efficiently. The workshops are also looking at disruptive trends and technologies which could define how we design for the future, including blockchain, self-driving vehicles, the internet of things, "batch size one" or individually personalised goods, and digital fingerprints for ensuring provenance for customers.'

If you're not already following us on social media, we are on LinkedIn and also on Twitter at @WestSydCity with the hashtags #integratedlogisticshub, #freight and #supplychain.
