Tribute to Terry Considine 1956 - 2014 (3).png

We brought to the attention of many VTA members this morning that the Funeral Service for Terry Considine is to be held this coming Thursday, 27th February at 1pm at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Centre Dandenong Road, Cheltenham.

The Considine family is acutely aware that this is likely to be a very large gathering indeed, given the way in which Terry touched so many lives, professionally in the transport industry and in business, as well as personally through his football, cycling, church, family and other social interests.

As a result, an additional, special Memorial Service is now planned to occur on Saturday, 1st March 2014 commencing at 11am at St. Leo the Great, 315 Mason Street, Altona North.

This Memorial Service will be another opportunity to celebrate Terry's life, particularly his professional life in the transport industry as CEO of Secon Freight Logistics, and as a dedicated contributor to issues at the industry level through such organisations as the Victorian Transport Association (VTA), and others.

Terry's brother, Brendon, has asked us to inform the transport industry and the broader set of VTA stakeholders about this Memorial Service, to which everyone is welcome to attend.

Any queries regarding the Memorial Service can be directed to Stephen Nailer, General Manager, Secon Freight Logistics, ph: (03) 9393 4422, email: steve@secon.com.au.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has received the tragic news from the Victorian Transport Association (VTA) of the passing of Terry Considine, CEO of Secon Freight Logistics.  Terry suffered a heart attack while on leave in Queensland over a week ago and passed away in hospital yesterday morning.

The Tribute to Terry reproduced below and the attached photo have been provided to us by the Considine family via the VTA

The VTA expresses its deepest condolences to Terry's wife, Patrice, their children, Fiona, Peter and Joe, to Terry's father Maurie, mother Maureen, brothers Brendon, Vin, Paul and Matt, and to the large extended Considine family, on behalf of all members of the VTA and the many people in Governments, departments, agencies, companies and in other organisations, who knew and dealt with Terry over the years.

From the Association's perspective there was no finer contributor.  Terry chaired the VTA Container Group for many years, and was a steady hand through very intense discussions and negotiations with port-related stakeholders, including stevedores, transport operators, empty container parks, shipping lines, the Port of Melbourne Corporation and others.  He was a great contributor also to the VTA General Freight Committee (the "engine-room" of the VTA interaction with its members in developing VTA policies and actions on general freight matters).  Last November, Terry was a fitting recipient of the WFD Chalmers Award bestowed on representatives of the transport industry who give back generously and unreservedly to the Association, and to the industry as a whole ... we are so glad that we had the opportunity to recognise Terry in this way.

A more decent, fair-minded bloke you'd be hard to find ... we will miss him greatly.  Rest in Peace.

We understand that the funeral will be held late this coming week in Cheltenham.  Once we have official details, we will let people know.

Tributes flow for Terry Considine

Friends and work colleagues are today paying tribute to the late Terry Considine.

They are remembering with affection the life of Terry, the oldest of five boys of Maurie & Maureen Considine, who died in Queensland this morning at the age of 58.

Terry Considine is survived by his wife Patrice, daughters Fiona, Peter and Joe. He is also survived by his father Maurie, mother Maureen, brothers Brendan, Vin, Paul and Matt and members of the Considines' extended family.

As the CEO of Secon Freight Logistics established by his father, Terry was a revered and respected figure to those he employed.

To quote a close friend: "Anyone who knew him will tell you that like all the Considines Terry was salt of the earth".

So it was at the Old Paradians Amateur Football Club, where Terry, like his brothers and his father, contributed many years of loyal service to the teams he represented with great distinction as a player throughout the 1970s and '80s.

Beyond his on-field retirement, Terry maintained an active interest in the football club as both major sponsor and supporter, and while he never attended Parade College was a loyal and active supporter of the Old Paradians' Association's cause.

Terry was also great family man too. He grew up in Ringwood, but he and his wife Patrice raised their children in Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Cheltenham. He was also actively involved with the Cheltenham Panthers Football Club both as committeeman and briefly coach.

He was also heavily involved with the Victorian Transport Association and was Chairman of the Container Group. As CEO of Secon he took over from Maurie and he was instrumental in preparing the family business for its third generation.

A fervent supporter of the Hawthorn Football Club for whom both Maurie and Paul played, Terry's love for the Hawks was matched only by his love of the punt and his love for people . . . not necessarily in that order.

And he was totally committed to the fortunes of Secon and the welfare of its employees.

"Terry was the sort of bloke who could punch you between the eyes with a feather. He had a good way of bringing people together and unifying them for the one task. He was the perfect boss," a Secon employee said.

"Above all else, Terry had empathy. He had every skill a brilliant manager of people needs."

Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.
