High winds affecting empty container dehire in Melbourne and Sydney

Friday, August 9, 2019

Due to high winds today (9 August 2019), a number of empty container parks (ECP) and terminals in Melbourne and Sydney have understandably closed for safety reasons.

In the event that transport operators are turned away, most will be forced to take the empty container to a staging yard until the ECP or terminal reopens.

This would generally result in additional cartage costs and increases the risk of container detention should last free day be Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

We highly recommend that members liaise with shipping lines in these extreme circumstances to seek an appropriate extension of container dehire terms.
