Customs Minister gets first-hand look at Hawk V

The Minister of Customs, Hon Kris Faafoi, got a first-hand look at our Hawk V patrol vessel in the Bay of Islands this week.

Our maritime team was in Opua for regular patrols and to discuss with communities how they can help protect the border by keeping watch along the coastline.

Suspicious activity on the coast can be reported using Customs' 24-hour Coastwatch hotline 0800 428 786. All information and details are treated anonymously and in confidence

Handy new tool from MPI

The Ministry for Primary Industries is trialling a handy new tool to help you learn what you can and can't bring to New Zealand. It has information on the items they're most frequently asked about – food, drinks, sports and outdoor equipment, and animal and plant products.

The tool only applies only to private consignments (goods or items for personal use).

Brexit Seminar Series

On 12, 13 and 14 February, New Zealand Trade & Enterprise are holding a series of seminars to help New Zealand exporters prepare for Brexit. Customs and representatives of other New Zealand government agencies will also be there to provide updates on developments.

The Auckland seminar is now full, but there are still spaces in Wellington and Christchurch.

Consultation on the draft Therapeutic Products Bill

The Ministry of Health is seeking feedback on the draft Therapeutic Products Bill. The Therapeutic Products Bill would replace the Medicines Act 1981 and establish a new regulatory scheme for therapeutic products. This includes medicines (including cell and tissue products) and medical devices.

Natural Health Products will be excluded, as far as possible, as the Government is considering options for how these could be regulated as a separate process. The draft Bill includes regulatory requirements that could impact the importation of therapeutic products.

The consultation period closes on 18 April 2019.

Tariff Concession Notices

We regularly publish tariff concession notices on our website. A tariff concession removes the tariff duty that would otherwise be payable under the Tariff for certain goods. 2019 Tariff Concession Advertisement Notices 4 and 5 are now available.

Cancelling import entries

We have seen an increase in requests from brokers for cancellation of import entries solely for the purpose of changing payment method. Such requests will only be granted under exceptional circumstances, in which case you can email us outlining your case.
