The next BIG thing - air cargo security requirements - 1 March 2019

Wednesday, January 2, 2019

The Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) has disseminated a notice to Australian exporters titled Export Air Cargo Security is changing on 1 March 2019 highlighting that it is less than three (3) months until 1 March 2019 when export air cargo, regardless of destination, will need to be examined at piece-level or originate from a Known Consignor.

Please refer to the complete list of approved Known Consignors and Regulated Agent Cargo Agents (RACAs).

NOTE: as at 21 December 2018, DoHA stated that there are an additional 78 Known Consignor and 18 RACA applications currently being assessed.

We also understand that DoHA are working closely with the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission on a set of FAQs for the agriculture sector – to be published on DAWR's website shortly - in the interim, a Fact Sheet has been released titled Phytosanitary inspections after air cargo has been security cleared

We understand that DoHA will send out a further reminder letter this month and continue to provide advice and assistance through the AMS Guidance Centre.

DoHA is encouraging anyone with concerns about their business' readiness for 1 March 2019 requirements to contact them at guidancecentre@homeaffairs.gov.au or 1300 791 581.
