Proposed introduction of a cost recovery levy on low value consignments

Monday, February 12, 2018
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) will be joining industry colleagues at a Department of Home Affairs hosted meeting of the "Trade Facilitation Initiatives Working Group" - Tuesday 20 February 2018.

In preparation for the meeting, a discussion paper titled "Trade and Cargo Activities – Cost Recovery" has been provided to participants outlining a proposed restructure of cost recovery arrangements for biosecurity, cargo and trade border activities, including the introduction of a cost recovery levy on low value consignments.

The intention of the proposed levy is to redistribute existing cost-recovery arrangements for cargo and trade border activities and those for managing Australia's biosecurity system, to include imports of low value consignments, consistent with the Australian Government Cost Recovery Guidelines (AGCRGs).
