2GB - Significant disruption resulting from prolonged delays at Qantas Freight Sydney Terminal

Wednesday, July 1, 2026

Significant delays in the recovery and release of import air cargo through Qantas Freight's Sydney terminal continue to cause disruption for industry, with members reporting freight remaining unavailable for extended periods after arrival, limited visibility on shipment status and difficulty obtaining timely operational updates.

The issue has now attracted broader media attention with James Willis from 2GB's Ben Fordham Show speaking to FTA General Manager Freight Policy & Operations, Tom Jensen, on the impacts being experienced by importers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and logistics providers.

Tom Jensen outlined industry concerns that the delays are affecting time-sensitive freight movements and creating flow-on disruption across the supply chain.

Mr Jensen highlighted that these are not simply isolated terminal delays anymore, where air cargo is not recovered or released within expected timeframes, businesses can face missed delivery windows, disrupted transport planning, pressure on warehouse and customer service teams, and uncertainty when communicating with their own customers.

While Qantas Freight has advised that it is working through operational challenges and recovery measures, FTA/APSA reinforced that member feedback indicates the delays remain a significant concern. Continued focus is required on freight recovery, communication, visibility and service reliability.
