This month's report reflects a market moving firmly out of the post-Chinese New Year peak and into a more corrective phase. Freight rates are easing across the major East-West trades, blank sailings are increasing, and carriers are actively managing capacity as demand softens and network pressures persist.
Global conditions remain complex. While geopolitical risks continue to shape routing decisions, particularly around the Red Sea and Suez, expanding vessel capacity and intensifying competition are keeping downward pressure on rates. At the same time, schedule reliability remains fragile, with congestion, weather disruption and vessel bunching continuing to weigh on network performance across multiple regions.
Closer to home, the Australian market is navigating seasonal service adjustments, rate and surcharge updates, and changing carrier strategies across both coastal and international trades. Equipment availability, blank sailings and shifting service structures remain key considerations for forward planning.
Looking ahead, attention is turning to how quickly networks stabilise post-Lunar New Year, the pace of any broader return to Suez, and the implications for rates, congestion and reliability as we move deeper into 2026.
