Port of Newcastle is delivering on a significant diversification strategy to create the Port that our community, our region, and our state needs for the future. Central to this strategy is the expansion of the Multipurpose Terminal, which offers direct access to national heavy vehicle and freight rail networks, increasing capacity for roll-on roll-off (RoRo) cargo, and the development of a Clean Energy Precinct, backed by the Commonwealth Government. SEE MORE

FTA / APSA - ADVOCACY

Reform to Customs Broker Licensing

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has formally approached the Australian Border Force (ABF) following our most recent Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Border Compliance Program events requesting formal review of the current regulatory framework which restricts licensed customs brokers from lodging Full Import Declarations (FIDs) while temporarily located outside of Australia.

FTA believe this approach would allow for flexibility while upholding the high professional standards expected of licensed customs brokers. This is also consistent with other regulated professions where incidental work is permitted outside of the jurisdiction of registration.

FTA / APSA - IN THE MEDIA

The AGE - Donald Trump's tariffs cast $1.25 billion shadow over
Victoria's budget

Paul Zalai, Director of the Freight & Trade Alliance and secretariat of the Australian Peak Shippers Association, said it was impossible to predict the full impact of US tariffs because the goalposts kept moving. "Shipping demand to the US is fluctuating weekly, with vessels and equipment being scheduled inconsistently. This volatility disrupts supply chains globally and creates uncertainty for Australian traders," he said.

Zalai said it was vital that Australia diversify its trade partnerships.

"We must actively pursue emerging markets across Asia and urgently finalise a free trade agreement with Europe," he said."Even with success in these areas, we are still vulnerable to global shipping disruptions. However, there are pressing domestic issues well within our control."  READ MORE
