NSW empty container supply chain review

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has commissioned a review related to the empty container supply chain.
 
A key goal of the NSW Freight and Ports Plan 2018-2023 is to improve the flow of freight through trade gateways. A key action to support this goal is to collaborate with shipping lines, container terminal stevedores, intermodal terminals and empty container parks, to investigate how to improve both the movement of empty containers into and out of Port Botany and their utilisation. 
 
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) representatives have been interviewed as a part of this process highlighting inefficiencies of current processes and outlining details of the cascading costs that are being passed down the supply chain.
 
In speaking with the consultants again yesterday (4 April 2019), a request was received for FTA / APSA to facilitate an introduction to beneficial cargo owners (importers and exporters) to test preliminary findings which will underpin analysis to estimate cost impacts on the supply chain.
 
We understand that the engagement would only need to take a 5 or 10 minute conversation to ask a few questions (or in more detail if there are specific issues members would like to raise).
