Discussion Paper: The Future of Digital Trade Rules

Friday, May 4, 2018
The Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) has provided Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) with a Discussion Paper on the Future of Digital Trade Rules, which is now available for comment.

We would encourage members involved in cross-border e-commerce to read the Paper and to participate in the discussions.

The Paper is available by clicking HERE.

The Paper defines:

1. What Australia is doing in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in this area;
2. E-commerce chapters in Australian Free Trade Agreements (in force and under negotiation);
3. An outline of key digital trade provisions that the Australian Government is seeking in trade agreements.

These provisions include electronic authorisation and the elimination of customs duties on technological products.
