Australian Border Force recruiting now

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

The Australian Border Force (ABF) is looking for new recruits for its 2017 Border Force Officer Recruit Trainee programme.

Border Force officers have an important role in protecting our border and the community—whether it's preventing illicit drugs and weapons entering the country, or protecting venerable members of the community, such as victims of human trafficking.

Assistant Commissioner Border Force Capability Peter Docwra says that he is often asked how people can join the ABF.

"It's great to know that there are so many people around the country who would like to become a Border Force officer and serve the Australian community," Assistant Commissioner Docwra said.

"A career with the ABF is exciting, challenging and rewarding, and our Border Force Officer Recruit Trainee programme provides people with the training and support they need to build a long and enjoyable career."

During their first six months, Border Force Officer Recruit Trainees receive training in passenger clearance, vessel and aircraft search and cargo and mail examination.

They then commence six-month work placements where they put into practice the skills they've learnt in training, before commencing their first full-time posting.

Border Force officers undertake a range of functions—patrolling airports, seaports, remote locations, mail and cargo centres and Australia's extended maritime jurisdiction.

Border Force officers have recently assisted in the detection of large quantities of drugs, including $275 million worth of crystal methamphetamine, apprehended illegal foreign fishing vessels in Australia's waters, stopped unlawful travellers entering the country and assisted in identifying fraudulent passports.
