Future Drought Fund Updates

Release of the Future Drought Fund Investment Strategy

Today, the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Hon Julie Collins MP released the Future Drought Fund (FDF) Investment Strategy – the first for the fund.

The strategy responds to a recommendation made by the Productivity Commission in their review of the FDF in 2023 and to stakeholder feedback.

We've developed a long-term plan that focuses on high-impact programs designed to meet local needs including through strong partnerships.

Guided by your feedback, the strategy covers 5 priority funding areas:
1)    Partnering for local solutions
2)    Partnering for First Nations initiatives
3)    Building knowledge, skills and capability
4)    Innovating for transformation
5)    Measuring progress and knowledge sharing

Our approach is to put people first, encouraging more engagement with stakeholders and fostering collaboration with First Nations Australians and their communities.

The strategy provides information on how stakeholders can engage with the programs, timing for funding rounds and how the FDF links with other funding programs and government initiatives.

We are focused on creating effective programs that help rural communities, farmers, First Nations peoples, and our agricultural industry to plan and respond effectively to drought and climate challenges.

We thank everyone who provided valuable feedback during consultations.

We invite you to read the Investment Strategy.
