Consultation on the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) review | Species: All Countries: All | Attention Purpose To inform stakeholders on upcoming consultation for the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) review. Key points - The department has commenced a targeted review of ESCAS.
- The review will ensure the existing ESCAS framework remains robust, functional, and effective in ensuring that animal welfare, control and traceability outcomes continue to be met for exported feeder and slaughter livestock in importing countries, up until and including the point of slaughter.
- Consultation for stage 1 of the ESCAS review will open on 10 January 2023 through Have Your Say.
- Stakeholders will be invited to provide feedback on specific challenges within the framework identified from a desktop review. We will ask for your feedback on the following key areas:
- monitoring and verification activities
- control and traceability
- noncompliance management
- administration
- animal welfare standards.
- We are seeking constructive feedback on challenges and proposed solutions.
- Consultation will close on 21 February 2023.
- Submissions within the scope of feedback requested will be considered and used to inform recommendations for stage 2 of the ESCAS review.
Background ESCAS is the regulatory framework that ensures that exporters meet animal welfare, control and traceability outcomes for exported feeder and slaughter livestock in importing countries. This is the first review of ESCAS by the department since the framework was first implemented in 2011.
