Positioning Air Cargo for the future at Auckland Airport

20th February 2018

Auckland Airport has embarked on a project to improve how Air Cargo transitions through the Airport.

One of the key drivers for this project is facilitating trade for the benefit of New Zealand and all stakeholders involved in the supply chain.

Early stage analysis has identified some of the following issues:
  • Cargo Terminal Operations (CTOs) outgrowing existing facilities
  • Opportunities to improve safety and security
  • Landside traffic congestion
  • Airside ULD staging & storage
  • Lack of Airside/Landside facilities
Through consultation with a broad group of CBAFF members, Auckland Airport has received feedback on what is important to the industry, with key concerns being:
  • Improved roading / accessibility between freight forwarder & CTO location (reduced conflicts)
  • Efficient site layout and design (ease of access / exit)
  • Ease of site access and processing
  • Separating Passenger and Cargo traffic
  • Coolchain integrity
  • End to end visibility of import/export movements through the logistical chain on airport
As a result of the industry feedback and internal work undertaken to date, a feasibility phase is now underway.

Its anticipated that this process will be completed by the middle of 2018.

To date Auckland Airport has taken a highly consultative approach to this project and this will continue, so as to ensure that the key stakeholder groups ideas and requirements are factored in at each stage of the feasibility and planning.

Auckland Airport's vision for its future is to be a world-class, yet uniquely New Zealand airport, for both passengers and cargo. Its anticipated that the future positioning of Air Cargo at Auckland Airport will help achieve this vision.

The performance report for the year to 30 June 2017, and proposed levy rates beginning 1 July 2018 is now available on our website.

NZBN mandatory in TSW Registrations from 28 January

Source: NZ Customs Release

TSW users who create client codes, please note that this weekend the New Zealand Business Number (NZBN) field in TSW Registrations will become mandatory for Organisation Types "Company - NZ Registered".

A new "Lookup NZBN" link is provided to assist in finding the NZBN.

This replaces the need to provide the New Zealand Company Registration Number. However, a copy of the NZ Certificate of Incorporation is still required for NZ Registered companies.

Registered Food Importers - Correct Client Code Usage

Source: Ministry of Primary Industries

When importing food for sale it is important that:
  •          the importer is Registered as a Food Importer with MPI; and
  •          An active Importer/Exporter client code is used rather than a General Client code.
The active Importer/Exporter code is associated with the registration of Food Importer under the Food Act 2014.
Failure to use the correct code may mean that:
  •         The client may be identified as an unregistered food importer by MPI
  •         Clearance may be withheld unintentionally by MPI
For Registered Food Importers the client code would have been notified by NZ Customs on approval of the client registration application (Customs 224 or 225 form).

If you are unsure what client code should be used details are available in the Trade Single Window or you can contact Approvals@mpi.govt.nz for help.

As the client code is used in the Joint Border Management System (JBMS) to facilitate clearance for businesses that hold NZ Importer Assurances (Previously Multiple Release Permit (MRP) holders) it is important that the timing of any change in the use of client codes is managed in conjunction with MPI. MPI will therefore be writing directly to these businesses and their brokers.

OPINION: Road is here to stay, and rail still has a future

Source: Stuff.co.nz

It is so easy these days to watch a linehaul truck go by on the motorway and simply see a large box on wheels without giving any consideration to what it is carrying or where it is going.

Inside that truck are the things that make our economy tick. There could be food to fill the shelves of the supermarket, flat-screen TVs and appliances for the family home, or produce for the local café and restaurant.
