Last year the Federal Government commenced an Inquiry into National Freight and Supply Chain Priorities led by an Expert Panel.
The National Inquiry serves to "reduce the costs of transporting goods through our major national container ports, airports and intermodal terminals" and will inform a National Freight & Supply Chain Strategy, which is due to be released before the end of 2018. On 16 February, representatives from the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) and Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) met with the Industry Panel leading the inquiry at the Bega offices, to provide input into the draft report before its public release next month. Panel Representatives: Maurice James (CEO Qube) Marika Calfas (CEO NSW Ports) David Simon (Executive Chairman of Simon National Carriers and Former Chairman of the ATA) FTA Importer Member Representatives: K-Mart Target FTA Freight Forwarder Representative: Kuehne + Nagel APSA Representatives: Bega Visy Industries Riordan Grains Namoi Cotton Cargill
Inquiry Secretariat: Naa Opoku For the Inquiry and the National Freight & Supply Chain Strategy to deliver real economic benefits, it needs to closely reflect the needs of Australia's importers, exporters and their logistics service providers. The Inquiry Panel had the opportunity to hear directly from these stakeholders in our session and we sincerely hope that their input is considered in the release of the Final Report.
We thank the Department and the Inquiry Panel for their engagement and look forward to the release of the Final Report later this month.
