James Wright - Director, Commercial Development

MCS is a 2ndgeneration family business in our 44th year of business. We operate New South Wales' largest 24/7 open access intermodal terminal at Cooks River, strategically located only 4km direct on the freight only main line from Port Botany and 10km by road. With a capacity of 15,000 TEUs making it the largest fully integrated container terminal as well as empty container terminal in Sydney, Cooks River's unique size and neighbouring geographic proximity make it a critical piece of infrastructure in the overall efficiency and reliability of the Port Botany supply chain that cannot be duplicated elsewhere. We also operate the 3,500 TEU MCS Banksmeadow empty park link facility & FCL staging facility directly adjacent to the port. Together, MCS handles over 870,000 full and empty container movements per annum. Our substantial rail infrastructure at Cooks River allows us to service over 150 rail regional and direct port shuttle services per month up to 1.2km in length. In 2014, MCS commenced our own port rail operations to and from Cooks River taking close to 11,000 trucks off the road. With the introduction of our grain containerisation facility at Cooks River in mid 2018 with GrainCorp, we will be moving upwards of 35,000 TEU on port rail ourselves. MCS is committed to achieving the mode share targets of the NSW Government and NSW Ports, with plans for further rail investment at Cooks River in the near term.
