Tuesday, November 22, 2016

Australian Border Force (ABF) investigators have arrested and charged a 23-year-old male and a 23-year-old female with importing performance and image enhancing drugs (PIEDs).

ABF officers conducted investigations into a number of NSW Central Coast based persons of interest importing a significant amount of PIEDs into Australia for local distribution.

Between October 2014 and October 2016, ABF investigators intercepted more than 17 consignments containing PIEDs in various forms:

  • 13,672 tablets
  • 11.2ltrs Testosterone
  • 600ml anabolic steroid
  • 195 vials Somatropin
  • 120ml Clenbuterol
  • 20 vials & 55 ampules Human Growth Hormone
  • 102 capsules Oxymetholone (Anesterone)

As a result of the above seizures, ABF investigators executed search and seizure warrants at several residential properties in the Central Coast region of NSW, over the period of 7-11 November 2016.

During the warrant activity, ABF investigators seized the following PIEDs and other items:

  • 12 litres of PIEDs
  • 100 grams of Cannabis
  • 300 Vials believed to contain Human Growth Hormone

They were charged with importing prohibited tier 1 goods, contrary to Section 233BAA4 of the Customs Act 1901, which carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment or a fine not exceeding $180,000 or both.

ABF Commander Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Anthony Seebach, said this seizure provide another good example of the ABF's work to combat this criminal activity.

"These drugs can have serious health impacts for users and the ABF is committed to protecting our community by stamping out the illicit importation of these dangerous drugs," Commander Seebach said.

"If you import steroids or other performance and image enhancing drugs without a permit you're breaking the law and you will face the consequences."

The man and woman are due to face Woy Woy Local Court on 10 January 2017.
