The GSF is the peak body for cargo owners globally, representing cargo owners to major UN agencies such as the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the World Customs Organisation (WCO). GSF also represent cargo owners in the Global Air Cargo Advisory Group with ICAO/WCO.

Topics  addressed in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) included:

  1. Surcharges and Terminal Handling Charges;

  2. GSF's response to liner shipping consolidation and the impact on cargo owners;

  3. Liner shipping competition and anti-trust issues;

  4. Air cargo industry priorities;

  5. Trade facilitation opportunities;

Unlocking value across the container logistics supply chain

Transport inefficiencies that start at the terminal gate have a flow-on effect right across the container logistics supply chain, trapping value and depressing profitability for all involved.

But it doesn't have to be this way.

Connecting the community of container depots and terminals, cargo owners, shipping lines, and road transporters, Containerchain solutions support synchronised communication and operational predictability.

Features include real-time paperless tracking,frictionless information exchange, process automation, and optimised asset utilisation - as well as total container movement visibility for more proactive planning. The result is lowered cost of operations and improved profitability for one of the world's most essential industries.

Global Finance Report

WEEKLY MARKET COMMENTARY

Non-Farm Payrolls contracted for September, largely attributable to the hurricanes that hit Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, while the unemployment rate continued to fall (4.2%). The disappointment was short-lived as markets digested and moved on. Average earnings rose and the US labour remains strong and healthy. The Dollar remained steady, with the EUR trading 1.1730, while the GBP slipped to 1.3050. Commodity currencies have been victims of the resurgent Dollar, with the AUD falling to 0.7777, while the NZD dipped below 0.7100. The coming week will be highlighted by growth, in the form of inflation and GDP numbers, in both the US and Europe. Trade data, from China and Europe, will also impact commodity currencies in the form of demand pressure. NZ final election tallies are released over the weekend so negotiation may commence. Let the games begin! ... read more
