Inquiry into Treasury Laws Amendment (GST Low Value Goods) Bill 2017

As outlined in our latest member notice, the Senate referred the provisions of the Treasury Laws Amendment (GST Low Value Goods) Bill 2017 to the Senate Economics Legislation Committee for inquiry and report. 
 
The bill proposes to Amends the A New Tax System (Goods and Services Tax) Act 1999 to ensure that goods and services tax is payable on certain supplies of low value goods that are purchased by consumers and are imported into Australia; and the Taxation Administration Act 1953 to broaden administrative penalties for making false or misleading statements.
 
The Committee is due to report to the Senate by 9 May 2017.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has received formal advice today from the Committee that they would like to receive submissions by 10 April 2017 – refer HERE for further detail.
 
The Committee is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and organisations preferably in electronic form submitted online or sent by email to economics.sen@aph.gov.au as an attached Adobe PDF or MS Word format document. The email must include full postal address and contact details.
