Journal of Commerce - Australian shippers welcome end to four-month DP World - dockworkers dispute

Friday, February 2, 2024
Paul Zalai, director of both Australia's Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Global Shippers' Forum, welcomed the news.

"Four years is good and will go a long way in providing a level of confidence to DP World's client shipping lines," Zalai told the Journal of Commerce Friday.

But he also warned of further potential disruption next year when the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) begins talks to renew labor agreements with other terminal operators including Hutchison Ports, Patrick Terminals and Victoria International Container Terminal. "It is bad enough having one stevedore targeted — (MUA) have all the others lined up to potentially create havoc," he said.
