The Australian Business Review - DP World uses govt hearing to call for help to end port dispute

Monday, January 22, 2024

QUOTE: About 99 per cent of Australia's international trade by volume is carried by sea and DP World believes its current industrial relations dispute has cost the nation $84m per week since it began.

Last week, Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke rejected suggestions it had cost that much and said he would not order the Fair Work Commission to intervene before the nine month period is up.

But Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) director Paul Zalai told The Australian if anything, his figures suggested it was costing the nation even more, putting the figure at $20m per day or $140m per week.
