Transport inefficiencies that start at the terminal gate have a flow-on effect right across the container logistics supply chain, trapping value and depressing profitability for all involved.

But it doesn't have to be this way.

Connecting the community of container depots and terminals, cargo owners, shipping lines, and road transporters, Containerchain solutions support synchronised communication and operational predictability.

Features include real-time paperless tracking, frictionless information exchange, process automation, and optimised asset utilisation - as well as total container movement visibility for more proactive planning. The result is lowered cost of operations and improved profitability for one of the world's most essential industries.

Global

Global Finance Report

Weekly Market Commentary

Equity markets continued to unwind under the threat of global trade wars. The Trump administration has announced the imposition of tariffs of up to $60 Billion on Chinese trade. This is the opening salvo on negotiations designed to curtail Chinese theft of 'intellectual property' and address the massive trade imbalance. China has responded with retaliatory tariffs but they can only lose this war. They have an enormous trade surplus with the USA and 'free trade' has allowed this to flourish. Chinese markets have been protected by their own tariffs/trade restrictions, impeding trade partners, while taking advantage on free markets in the US. Command economies have worked well, as Asian Tigers have demonstrated, but challenges are here. Free Trade is transitioning to 'fair trade' and reciprocity!

The Dollar has suffered, with the EUR jumping to 1.2350, while the Yen has hit 104.50! This is a temporary reaction to 'trade wars' and the Feds activities should ensure the continued performance of a strong Dollar. The Central Banks that have been mired in the previous monetary cycle, should perform accordingly. The ECB, RBA, RBNZ and BoJ continue with QE, supporting vulnerable economies, thereby undermining their currencies. The NZD will open the week above 0.7200, while the AUD remains vulnerable, drifting below 0.7700.

Easter arrives this coming week so a shortened trading week should provide plenty of action. ... read more

Potential levy on low value goods

Then a wave of radio interviews (Wendy Harmer & Robbie Buck, 2GB, 3AW, 6PR, ABC National) then in front of the channel 7 and 10 cameras and finally live in the ABC studio - CONCLUSION - a new potential levy on Internet goods seems to be of public interest !!

Extended deadline for submissions is now 31 March ... refer HERE

Australian shippers reject mandatory slow steaming measures

DCN - Monday, March 26, 2018

Biosecurity

"Don't be a Jeff"

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources have just launched a new community-focused biosecurity webpage and series of short animated videos entitled 'Don't be a Jeff', which aim to engage the public on what biosecurity is, why it matters and what their role is in the system.

The videos follow the story of a well-intentioned but hapless character, Jeff, in scenarios that compromise biosecurity. Jeff is shown mishandling farm biosecurity, improperly disposing of fish and not declaring a souvenir when re-entering the country from overseas. The videos are another way we can increase awareness around biosecurity. They are presented in a fun and engaging way and we are encouraging the sharing of the videos through social media channels.

If you feel that these videos may resonate with your stakeholders, you are welcome to share them through your own social media channels to help promote shared responsibility in biosecurity.

You can visit the page, watch the videos and share the content through agriculture.gov.au/dontbeajeff.
